One of the most important keys to success in the travel industry is training. Our independent agents are offered a variety of training options within our Agent-Only web site. Training falls into four categories:
1. Sapphire Cruises Training Modules
These are training modules put together by Sapphire Cruises and are specific to the business practices and procedures of our agency. These include such topics as using our agency software, working with group leaders, and more.
2. Supplier Training
Many suppliers offer free training courses either on their websites or through the mail. Our Agent-Only web site supplies links to these training opportunities.
3. Associations And Schools
Many travel associations (such as CLIA or ASTA) offer classes either online or at travel conferences throughout the country. There is usually a small fee to take these classes. In addition, several travel schools offer online classes with a variety of targeted subjects. Links to these sites are also available to our agents in our Agent-Only web site.
4. Fam Trips
One of the best ways to train in the travel industry is to go on a familiarization trip (or "fam"). Fam trips are usually cruises (although sometimes resorts or land-based tours), giving agents a chance to experience a particular travel product firsthand. On a cruise fam, for instance, agents would actually go on the cruise. Some fams have classroom time set aside for further training, some do not. Fam trips are typically discount priced, but certainly not free. Suppliers make fams available to agents so they can learn more about their products.
As you can see, there are many different venues for training available to our independent agents, and we encourage agents to take advantage of as many as they are able.
